Butch Marseglia established his own practice in December, 2016, after more than 40 years experience, including employment in the judicial and executive branches of the U. S. government and private practice in large and small law firms in Washington, D.C. and Houston, Texas. His practice continues to focus on arbitration, energy litigation, mediation, and advising domestic and international energy companies.
He has extensive experience analyzing, drafting, and reviewing energy-related contracts, as well as litigating and arbitrating disputes arising under them. Mr. Marseglia works with companies, both domestically and internationally, in connection with most aspects of the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry, with particular emphasis on deepwater Gulf of Mexico activities.
His over 45 years of legal experience includes two federal judicial clerkships, senior positions in the Federal Energy Administration and U.S. Department of Energy, and 35 years in private practice, in Washington, D.C. and Houston, including serving as the Administrative Partner for Butler & Binion's Energy, Real Property and Environmental Law Section. He has spoken extensively at private and public seminary, conferences and corporate retreats on issues related to energy, administrative and natural resources law. His private practice experience covers a wide-range of energy issues, including representation of trade groups and corporate interests in all phases of energy litigation.
Mr. Marseglia is listed on the American Arbitration Association Commercial and Energy Panels, including the Large Complex Case Panel of Energy Neutrals.
In 2006-07, he served as Chair of the Houston Bar Association, Oil, Gas & Mineral Law Section
In 2015, Woodward White, Inc.'s Best Lawyers (in America) named him Texas Natural Resources Lawyer of the Year
